Search the Record

Find a veteran, a mission, an aircraft, or a document across the indexed archives of the 306th Bombardment Group.

About these search tools

These search functions can only search documents we have indexed. All documents, including those not yet indexed, are available via links under the Education/Research tab on the home page. Like WWII clerks, our indexers sometimes make mistakes — these can be reported via the feedback link on the home page.

As of November 1, 2020, indexing is complete for all categories except Echoes, Histories, and Obituaries. We occasionally receive missing documents and new war-era photographs of veterans, along with histories and other material. You are encouraged to loan 306th-related material for us to scan and add to our site.

Search by name.

If first name is blank, the search returns all records with the last name you enter. Use only letters — omit apostrophes and spaces in names like O'Neal or von Herman. Search is case-insensitive.

Choose "all the below" or select one or more categories to search.

Search by serial number.

Almost all Officer serial numbers begin with the letter "O" and a dash (O-), NOT the number zero. A few begin with "T-" or "W-".

Search mission reports by date.

Select a date between 1942 and 1945 to find mission reports flown on that day.

Search by aircraft.

Plane serial numbers are in the form of ##-##### or ###. You can also enter a 3-digit tail number, a code, or a nickname.

Search Echoes by phrase or topic.

Select an indexer topic for best results, or enter your own search phrase. Single words are advised unless you know specific phrases used by our indexers. Phrase search is slower.

Correspondence file tags.

Filter correspondence files by a specific tag — photos, interviews, obituaries, letters, and more.
